USL wins third title at LIS Wizard 2014
The University of Saint Louis has once again exhibited its academic strength as a rising Library and Information Science (LIS) school north of the country as it bagged Second Place in the LIS Wizard held on Nov. 24, 2014 at the National Library of the Philippines, Manila.
Sponsored by the Philippine Association of Teachers of Library Science (PATLS), the contest was held in time with the celebration of PATLS’ 50th year and the 100th year of LIS education in the Philippines since its opening in 1914 in the University of the Philippines, the country’s first LIS school.
USL now has three titles to its name on its fourth year of joining in the competition. USL’s representatives in the recently held contest were Dana Tugade (Bachelor in Library and Information Science-4) and Dianne Tordillos (BLIS 3), coached by Mrs. Venus Guyos.
The University of Santo Tomas is 2014’s Champion, a title earned by USL in 2013. Bulacan State University finished third in the 2014 event.
The six other participating schools in the LIS Wizard 2014 include: Baliwag University (BU), Philippine Normal University (PNU), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), Saint Mary’s University (SMU), University of the East (UE), and University of the Philippines (UP).
Questions in the contest were on six subjects in the Librarian Licensure Examination such as Cataloguing and Classification, General Information, Indexing and Abstracting, Information Sources and Services, Information Technology, and Library Management and Laws.
