University President

Appointment

The President is appointed by the Board of Trustees. The University President is the executive administrator of the University of Saint Louis.

Term of Office

The term of Office of the President is three (3) years and may be renewed.

Rights and Responsibilities

The President shall have such rights and responsibilities as provided in the Statutes and those approved by the Board of Trustees.

  • Power to Delegate. Within the corporate powers of the Board of Trustees, the President of the University may delegate some or any of his functions to other officers of the University as he deems fit and necessary. In that case, he is bound by the actuation and decisions of the delegate which he has to consider as his own, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the University.

  • Emergency Powers. The President is vested by the Board of Trustees with the emergency power to act and decide for and in behalf of the Board on important and urgent matters which, in the sound discretion of the President, require immediate action.

    If time permits, the President shall consult with the advisers concerned before taking the necessary action. At the earliest opportunity, the President shall report the action taken to the Board of Trustees and other officers of the University who may be entitled to such information.

General Functions

  • Promotes the Christian education and living of all faculty, students and personnel and to maintain and promote the highest standards of academic excellence.

  • Participates in setting institutional goals in partnership with the Board of Trustees, faculty, students, the local, national, and international communities, and those who represent the University in these communities.

  • Works with the faculty in creating an environment that encourages learning for both faculty and students.

  • Recruits and maintain, through the Academic Deans and the Principal, competent and qualified faculty.

  • Maintains and promote good and satisfactory public relations with the local, national and international community.

  • Raises financial resources for the University’s Faculty Development Program and Physical Development Plans that will promote the best learning atmosphere and facilities.

Specific Functions

  • Responsible for the implementation and the realization of the academic and educational goals of the University by using the best possible means of administration and supervision.

  • Calls regular and special meetings of the University Council, to prepare the agenda of such meetings, and to act as its presiding officer.

  • Serves as a consultant to the Board of Trustees.

  • Balances and approves for submission to the Board of Trustees the budget submitted by the University Treasurer.

  • Recommends to the Board of Trustees the appointment of the Deans and other higher officers.

  • Appoints all other officers of the University subject to confirmation of the Board of Trustees.

  • Appoints someone as his representative whenever necessary.

  • Appoints new faculty members and non-academic personnel in consultation with the Screening Committee. The President has the privilege to deny the recommendation of prospective new faculty members or non-academic personnel by the Screening Committee for reasons which to him would to the best interest of the University.

  • Approves the initial ranking of faculty members.

  • Calls general faculty meetings as he deems fit and necessary.

  • Acts on the recommendations of the Academic Council for promotion, non-renewal of contract, termination or dismissal of faculty members and of the University Council or Head of office for non-academic personnel.

  • Creates committees and boards of studies as he deems necessary in order to promote the goals of the administration and to define the duties and functions of the same.

  • Approves University events and off-campus activities to be held during class periods, suspension of classes, the University where faculty members may continue their studies, loads of administrators and faculty members, cash advances for emergency cases in an amount not more than a month’s salary, and the posting of notices or posters on the campus by outsiders.

  • Makes an annual report to the corporate members and the Board of Trustees.
